Job description

Are you interested in using your statistical and data science knowledge to tackle current challenges in agricultural and environmental research?

Joining the Statistics and Data Science (SDS) Section, this position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment. We are involved in the creative application of both existing and novel statistical and data science methods to provide solutions to research questions across the institute research programme.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an applied statistician or Statistical Data Scientist,
  • Have training and experience in a range of traditional statistical methods.
  • Have knowledge of modern data science approaches to complement these traditional approaches .

The successful candidate will collaborate with Rothamsted Research scientists across various disciplines to support externally funded research projects.

Working with the Head of Statistics and Data Science, they will also identify collaborative research opportunities and assist with the development of new funding proposals.

Reinforcing our collaborative research activities, they will provide consultancy advice to designated research groups on the design of experiments and the application of statistical and data science analysis and modelling methods.

The candidate will also contribute to training and knowledge transfer to improve the understanding and appreciation of statistical and data science methods for researchers within the institute.

The SDS Section contributes to the activities of the Intelligent Data Ecosystems (IDE) strategic area, which also includes experts in Bioinformatics, and Research Data and Systems.

We interact with the wider data science expertise across the institute, including mathematical modelling, AI and remote sensing. We also contribute to the current Digital Transformation Initiative.

This initiative is expected to provide increased demand and opportunities for the application of statistical and data science expertise within the institute.

This is initially a fixed-term full-time appointment until 31st March 2028 with a salary in the range of £31,350 - £32,315 p.a. dependent on post-doctoral experience. The institute takes a flexible approach to working patterns, with a range of hybrid working models to be considered. Closing 19 June, Interviews will be carried out on 3rd July.
