Sterilisation and Cage Processing Supervisor
Mary Lyon Centre at MRC Harwell
£29,808 per annum
Open Ended
Full Time (36 hours per week)
About Us
The Mary Lyon Centre at MRC Harwell (MLC) https://www.har.mrc.ac.uk/ is located in an expanding science and innovation park in Oxfordshire and is an internationally renowned centre at the forefront of genetics research. As the hub of the new National Mouse Genetics Network, the specialist facilities and capabilities of the MLC support a number of distinct research clusters spread across the UK to accelerate our understanding of human disease.
About the Role
To ensure sterilisation of equipment, and to maintain a high level of cleanliness in the laboratories. To prepare and deliver equipment and consumables to all areas of the Mary Lyon Centre.
To provide supervision of a small team on a day-to-day basis, and support for up to eight technicians in the absence of the line manager.
About You
You will need to hold/have:
• Basic literacy and numeracy
• Able to supervise a small team and take responsibility for essential work in the absence of the line manager
• Experience and understanding of the importance of maintaining a clean environment
• Experience of working with basic cleaning equipment
• Excellent attention to detail
Key Responsibilities
Your main duties and key responsibilities include:
• Maintain biosecurity/cleanliness/hygiene in laboratory and administration areas to the prescribed standards
• Operate automated and semi-automated machinery such as autoclave and tunnel washer in the cage/bottle processing area. Full training will be provided
• Understand common faults with equipment and deal with them appropriately; troubleshoot new problems as they arise and seek advice where necessary
• Accompany service engineers, ensuring they comply with barrier conditions and have the required support to carry out the service/repair
• Maintain a sufficient stock of consumables, including stocktaking and ordering.
• Supervise team of three to four technicians, dealing with day-to-day problems that arise
• Train other members of the team
