Commissioning Team - Adult Social Care

We have a simple vision we all share in Adult Social Care in Solihull: to make a difference, in the right way, every day.  To join our team, you need to bring your creativity, drive and enthusiasm to help us achieve our purpose:

To enable people to stay as independent and well as possible for as long as possible.  When people do need long term support, this is timely, proportionate, responsive, and good quality and enables people to continue to live their lives the way they want to.

We have an opportunity for a skilled senior commissioner with the right values to lead our Markets and Performance Team.   You should currently be an experienced manager looking for an opportunity to further your career with a Council that will support your professional development and offers great scope for innovation.

Most important is that you share our approach to providing care and support for those who need it:

  • Ensure that the diverse voices of those who draw on care and support are heard at every stage in our commissioning activity and applied to shape and influence the services on offer.
  • Work with our partners in the social care market in a respectful and enabling way, drawing on their expertise to deliver the best services and outcomes for Solihull people.

The Adult Social Care Commissioning Team is ambitious to sustain the changes we have made to help shape services for those who rely upon them for their quality of life and independence.  We want our partnerships with the care market to bring ideas and solutions to meet changing expectations and emerging needs.  To do this, we need a Strategic Commissioner who is able to lead the approach to building relationships.  You will set the standards to be delivered through our commissioning activity to ensure a range of care and support for people that is responsive to the qualities they value.  You will take the lead in looking for new contractual opportunities to build sustainable, quality care.

Our Commissioning leadership team works closely together adapting and supporting each other with the workload while protecting areas of defined expert knowledge.  This post will report to the Assistant Director for Strategic Commissioning and Performance. Your area of expert knowledge needs to be in providing oversight of contracted services to ensure compliance, quality and sustainability and developing relationships with care providers to support and enable flexible solutions and new opportunities.

You will have the ability to work at pace, to manage and support a committed team of staff and be able to communicate clearly what excellent and compassionate social care looks like and see that it is delivered every day.

If you are drawn to our vision and purpose and are attracted to working in a borough that is small enough to care, but big enough to make a difference, please contact us to find out more.

We offer:

•           A range of flexible working options

•           Generous annual leave entitlements with the opportunity to purchase up to 10-days     additional leave per year

•           A flexitime scheme with up to 24 days per year

•           Access to our Employee Assistance Programme – a 24 hour independent, free and confidential advice and support service

•           Family and carer friendly policies

•           Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme

•           Employee benefits including staff discounts, subsidised travel passes and Cycle 2 Work Scheme

The Commissioning Team are very flexible with most of our work being carried out from home. We will however require you to be available when required for face to face meetings and to conduct business with providers and the public as necessary.
