Job description

Salary: Band 11 £44,428 - £48,474 per annum

Hours: 37 hours per week

Contract: Fixed term contract or secondment until 31 March 2025

What is the role?

You will be responsible in conjunction with the Transport Strategy Team Leader and Transport Planning Team Manager for providing expert advice on electric vehicle charging infrastructure within the city, as well as providing expert input to other council departments. You will help deliver the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure funding allocated to Portsmouth City Council.

You will be required to engage and consult with central government officers and their support bodies such as Office for Zero Emission Vehicles, Energy Savings Trust, Cenex, liaise and inform Councillors, senior managers, community groups and residents on electric vehicle charging infrastructure. You will also respond to and deal with electric vehicle infrastructure related transport planning queries raised by members of the public, Councillors and other stakeholders.

You will project manage and deliver projects relating to electric vehicle infrastructure, and remain up to date and compliant with all relevant guidance and legislation, organisational procedures, policies and professional codes of conduct in order to uphold standards of best practice. Additionally, you will assist the team to remain up to date and compliant.

What you’ll need to succeed

You will have a relevant degree level education OR demonstrable equivalent professional experience is essential. You will be able to communicate messages (which may be complicated or sensitive) clearly, concisely and at a level appropriate to the audience, who may not be specialists in transport planning. You will be able to build credible working relationships, build rapport and negotiate with and influence others, you will be able to develop positive partnership ways of working, with a range of stakeholders.

You will have a proven ability to represent the service with direction at highly challenging internal/ external meetings, with integrity and confidence. You will demonstrate high levels of verbal communication and reasoning, putting forward persuasive and compelling arguments to represent the council views and negotiate to achieve the best outcome for the council and residents.
