Streetcare Sweeper & Gully Tank Driver

This is a key role within the StreetCare team having a significant impact on the quality of the street cleansing service across the district and responsible for operating specialist truck mounted sweepers to carry out routine and ad-hock mechanical Street Sweeping.

The wider team includes a fleet of gully emptiers and specialist jet vac drainage cleansing vehicles and from time to time you may be needed to drive and operate any of these vehicles in the delivery of key council services for which training will be provided.

What will you be doing

• On a daily basis you will be operating mechanical sweeping vehicles and gully emptiers, carrying out all daily maintence checks prior to commencing work and reporting faults and maintenance requirements, operating to an excellent standard.
• In the role you will dispose of all waste arising in an effective manner and in accordance with the Duty of Care requirements and other appropriate waste legislation.
• You will drive and operate vehicles in accordance with health & Safety around specific areas and to required discharge points and take care of your own health and safety and that of their colleagues and others affected by their actions
• It will be your responsibility to undertake cleaning and minor maintenance of sweepers and gully vehicles and also to maintain paperwork and digital records as appropriate.
• While this role requires you to hold a Class 2 category C driving licence and to drive vehicles over 3,500kg with a trailer up to 750kg maximum authorised mass (MAM). 
• it is also an operational role where you will be required to carry out physical aspects of the role from routine driver maintenance and manual street cleaning where access buy mechanical means is not possible to assisting in gully and jetting operations.

• It is essential that you have a driving licence for a large goods vehicle Category C and able to drive vehicles over 3,500kg with a trailer up to 750kg maximum authorised mass (MAM).
• You must have relative skills in driving a large vehicle, to include experience of narrow roads and difficult access areas is necessary.
• It is important that you are able to work independently and be able to problem solve, a good communicator and development good customer relations.
• It is essential that you have physical fitness and stamina, as the work may involve extensive standing and walking all day with frequent manual handling including bending and lifting.
• It is desirable that you have experience of operating HGV mechanical street sweeper and experience of operating HGV gully emptying vehicles but training will be given.
