Job description

We are looking to find an adaptable individual for a key role within our business. The right person will relish the challenges and rewards of dealing with our highly varied and interesting client base - no two days are the same!

We are looking for an experienced Structural Engineer/Surveyor to work as part of a small team. The role would equally suit either an experienced Graduate engineer, an engineer approaching chartered status or an engineer that is already Chartered and looking for variety in their work. Our clients expect reactive and dynamic responses to their needs and you will be a crucial part of our small team in providing this service to them. The role will involve all aspects of Structural Engineering, from initial response to new enquiries, as well as meeting clients on site, determining their project requirements through to carrying out the design and detailing.

The role includes the future opportunity for advancement / directorship within the practice and we envisage that the role would suit those wishing to broaden their experience or develop their career. We offer flexibility in working hours for when life throws demands at you, and we also currently offer remote working on Fridays.

As a small company we would be looking for an excellent team player and one that can provide the following duties but also doesn't mind tackling additional challenges that might be required by the role;

• Preparing structural design calculations in steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry as appropriate for each project.
• Structural and civil designs include; steel frames, masonry structures, R.C. concrete elements, foundations in various soil types (including clay sites influenced by vegetation), laminated timber & oak beams/frames, R.C. concrete slabs & ground beams, underground drainage systems.
• Preparing detailed engineering drawings for GA plans & sections, structural details, reinforcement detail drawings, underground drainage drawings & hard-standing layouts.
• Coordinate with all members of the project team (including; client, architect, project manager, other specialists & local authorities) with the combined aim of delivering projects on time and within budget.
• Preparing designs for alterations to existing buildings of varying ages.
• Carrying out defect investigations to existing buildings and preparing subsequent formal written reports and remedial repair schemes as appropriate.
• Working on projects ranging from domestic works up to medium scale commercial projects. Typically projects with a contract value from 50k up to 1m, although larger projects are also occasionally undertaken.
• Responsible for liaising directly with the client from initial appointment through to project completion.
• Preparing fee proposals for new enquiries and ensuring the correct appointment procedures are implemented to clearly outline the agreed brief, fee and payment terms.

Applicants must have a current full Driving License.

This position is purely Office based, with regular site visits.
