College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences / Business School

Full time - 35 Hours Per Week

Contract - Open Ended (Permanent)

The Opportunity:

The University of Edinburgh Business School is seeking to appoint a Student Development Support Officer for the Student Development Team on an open-ended full time (35 hours) basis. For this post we are looking for a high-quality candidate to play a key role in our activities supporting student’s professional and career development. The successful applicant will be expected to deliver on Learning and Development activities and conduct 1-1 sessions with a specific focus on CV reviews for our MSc students. Furthermore you will also contribute to a number of key global employability projects that the team is leading on.

The successful applicant will have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to deliver skills workshops in both large groups and a 1-1 setting. Excellent communication skills are required, and the ability to establish good relationships with UG and PGT students from many countries as well as colleagues within the Student Development Team and the wider university community.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • A confident presenter with the confidence and comfort to deliver to both large a small audiences on a range of skill areas.
  • Strong relationship management skills. Tactful and diplomatic manner in dealing with students, external providers and clients, team members and colleagues across the university.
  • High level interpersonal skills, to adapt and relate appropriately to different stakeholders and operate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills. An ability to respond creatively to designing and implementing programs and also contribute to continuous improvement of processes
  • Project management and organisational skills to ensure activities/projects for a range of stakeholders are delivered to a high standard and delivered to deadlines.

The role shall be based within the Business school, 29 Buccleuch Place (Central Campus) with opportunities to combine a mix of remote and regular (60%) on-campus working.
