Job description

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a Student Support Adviser (with a focus on Student Finance and funding) to join a busy Student Support team.

The team provides information, advice and guidance to students on money and funding, disability, general wellbeing, mental health, and accommodation. Norwich students are mainly young undergraduates aged 18-23, with over 30% disclosing a specific learning difference or other physical or mental health disability. Over 13% of our students identify as Black, Asian or from another minority ethnic group.

Working creatively, you will find ways to effectively promote the Student Support service to our diverse student body. You will provide information, guidance and support to students either individually or in groups, ensuring that confidentiality is maintained where appropriate. Building positive relationships with University colleagues will be essential to the success of this role.

You will respond to enquiries and act as a first point of contact for students accessing the Student Support services with a focus on Student Finance and funding support, which includes supporting students with general Student Finance and funding enquiries, support around budgeting and money management, bursary allocations and funding application and assessments. You will be expected to carry out administrative tasks to support your own role.

You will also, on a weekly rota basis, support the on campus drop-in service that provides advice and guidance to students in person around mental health and well-being, disability support, accommodation as well as student finance and funding.

Working within a small, hardworking team, teamwork is a key attribute which requires a flexible approach. Your working pattern may vary slightly in response to changes in demand throughout the academic year. This can occasionally include evening and weekend working.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with experience of delivering a confidential service. You will have experience of working with service users on a one-to-one and group basis and thinking creatively to identify options.

You will be highly organised and have excellent attention to detail. You will be able to plan and prioritise work effectively in an environment with multiple deadlines and concurrent tasks. You will maintain accurate records and be a proficient user of Microsoft Office.
