We have a great opportunity at HMP Styal to join the education team as our Student Support Worker (Library) on a permanent, part-time basis, working 34.5 hours a week.

In this role the hours stated will primarily be working late morning, afternoons and early evenings. There will also be a requirement to work during Saturday mornings as well.

What the role entails

As the Student Support Worker (Library), you will Provide a support service to inmates in the prison library.
Help raise expectations and aspirations of our learners, to enthuse, motivate and create opportunities for learning and engagement.
Support learner progression through, for example; identification of educational need/course referral/pre & post course support/development of support plans.
Work with learners to support and develop personalised learning plans continually develop your practice and skills, to engage in new initiatives and, to share best practice with colleagues.
Utilise policies and procedures (both Novus and HMPPS) to support the wider prison resettlement and skills strategy.
Work collaboratively as part of a local specialist education team and, positively contribute as part of the wider prison team.

What we need from you

In order to be successful in the role of Student Support Worker (Library), you will need:

  • Relevant experience of conducting initial assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups.
  • Experience of working with groups of learners with a range of abilities.
  • Experience of successful working in an effective multi-disciplinary team
  • To hold or be willing to work towards level 2 qualifications in literacy and numeracy within an agreed timescale.

You'll be a self-starter with a passion to learn and grow yourself and will bring passion, dedication and positivity to your new role.
