Job description

We are seeking an enthusiastic & motivated individual to join our Wellbeing Team providing advice & support to students on a wide range of issues which affect their wellbeing & experience at the university. The Wellbeing Advisor will work closely with other members of the team, the Wellbeing Team &, where necessary, with external NHS providers & support bodies. The successful candidate is expected to deliver an effective & high-quality service & will be required to support positive mental health amongst students through direct work with individual students, support & advice for other staff & liaison with external agencies where appropriate. You must hold a degree or equivalent, have a background in a mental health related profession (e.g. occupational therapy, social work or nursing) & experience of working in adult mental health. You must have excellent communication skills, & be able to work both independently & as a member of a team. Our experienced team assists students on a wide range of non-academic issues that affect students whilst at university. The successful candidate will have experience of delivering wellbeing services, managing a large caseload & developing & delivering a range of interventions. OVERALL PURPOSE The primary purpose of this post is to deliver services in support of positive mental health amongst students, through direct work with students, support for other staff & liaison with external agencies. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES To act as a specialist point of reference for advice on student mental health matters To provide appropriate support for individuals experiencing relational distress & other issues that may have an impact on a student’s ability to continue & achieve in studies To provide information & support to students with wellbeing needs To develop & deliver non-therapeutic support services aimed at enabling study, specifically for students with mental health difficulties at ARUL. To respond to & manage (where appropriate) crisis response. To liaise with students, members of staff & external organisations To ensure provision of information, advice & guidance on psychological health, in the context of learning To offer individual support for students presenting with mental health difficulties: assessing mental health & learning needs, offering self-help strategies & information, referring to appropriate agencies & assisting the student in liaising with other staff as necessary To provide support to staff who are working with students with mental health difficulties To contribute to & being part of a team that responds to students in crisis To identify students who require mentoring & referring such students to the internal mentors To maintain records to a professional standard To be part of a team providing a package of distinctive student support activities Any other duties commensurate with the responsibilities & purpose of the post PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES Ability to work methodically, calmly & sensitively in all situations Ability to work as part of a team Ability to use initiative & support colleagues when responding to complex student situations Ability to be innovative & use judgement to ensure the needs of students are met Ability to reflect on situations & respond appropriately Dependability, reliability & consistent ability to produce high quality, accurate work, requiring close attention to detail Please send your CV & Covering Letter via the 'Apply' button above.  We reserve the right to close the advert early should we receive sufficient applications.
