Job description

The wellbeing of students is something that we take seriously at National Star.

That’s why we’re keen to recruit a new Student Wellbeing Officer to support Work Based Learning students with all their pastoral needs.

The Student Wellbeing Officer will be based at Greensteps, our Work Based Learning hub off Tewkesbury Road, Cheltenham. Some students at National Star experience social anxiety and have low self-confidence which can impact on their ability to make the most of the opportunities that college presents. Your role will be to support students to ensure the students achieve their full potential while at college.

As Student Wellbeing Officer you will need to have a full understanding of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) for student cohort and contribute to formal reports as required including updating the EHCPs in line with regulations.

The postholder will be expected to develop a pastoral programme that helps to promote respect, positive communication, and behaviour. You will be responsible for monitoring student attendance and following up and investigating student non-attendance.

The job will involve establishing strong links between parents, carers and families as well as working collaboratively with other teams within National Star including safeguarding and the emotional wellbeing service.

This role would suit someone who is already working in a SEND environment or within a care setting supporting emotional wellbeing. It goes without saying that you will be a good listener, who is patient and empathetic with first class communication and negotiation skills. You should have a relevant Level 3 qualification. It would be desirable if you also had a learning support or counselling/coaching qualification too.

This is a hugely rewarding role that has the potential to have a lasting impact on the lives of young people with disabilities aspiring to gain the skills they need to obtain their first job or a long-term volunteering placement.

Use your pastoral and wellbeing skills to best effect and join our team.
