Role summary


This role is within Business Delivery, the Procurement Manager will work with Digital Intelligence teams to provide support to plan, select, negotiate, purchase, expedite and make available services and sub-contractors to meet stringent project cost and timescales requirements. This includes negotiating and implementing contracts and contract amendments for complex supply and enabling agreements to provide business risk assurance and value for money commitments.


We are looking for someone that is experienced in developing and implementing best practice Supplier governance and performance management methodologies, to ensure the delivery of current commitments and future growth plans. To contribute and harness opportunities within the projects and the function with BAE wide strategic initiatives. The role will require you to provide compliance, to all processes associated with the Supply of goods and services.


It is expected that a Procurement Manager will deliver an optimized service, quality and cost offering to the customers of Procurement (both internal and externally facing) and to deliver sustainable (measurable) service excellence through demonstrable customer satisfaction.


Working on a hybrid working arrangement the ideal candidate will be able to travel to Guildford two days a week, or as the work necessitates, so ideally resides close to this location. You must also be a UK national, and have, or be able to get, UK Security Clearance.


What you’ll be doing

  • Develop Supply Chain strategies and partnerships to enable Digital Intelligence to ensure the framework is delivered effectively and efficiently.
  • To plan all procurement activity in conjunction with the technical and Project Management teams making sure timescales and lead times are embedded in the project plan.
  • Develop and implement supplier management plans for key/Strategic suppliers including partnering strategies, risk management and stakeholder management.
  • Provide Supply Chain support into projects, throughout their delivery, identifying supply chain partners, developing supplier/teaming agreements, negotiation of contract flow-downs, risk management and associated commercial negotiations.
  • Negotiate contract terms and value for money solutions for all purchases to determine the best solution for the business, that combines least cost, risk, with highest quality schedule compliance.
  • Ensure that all purchases are made using online tools and the ERP system (SAP) in compliance with Supply Chain procedures and best practice.
  • Ensure that hard and soft deliverables are made on time and in full and to the correct quality standards. Identify potential risks and issues and work with the wider team to find resolutions.
  • Manage the project life-cycle, ensuring deliverables are met, and amendments are implemented. To close out Contracts at end of life with no enduring liabilities.
  • Develop and implement best practice Supplier governance and performance management methodologies.
  • Develop a communications structure to manage Supply Chain status, performance, and critical issues management within a project and functional management structure.
  • Ensure full compliance with BAE Systems processes, policies and procedures.
  • Review BAE procurement policies and procedures, identify opportunities for improvement to meet the agile business needs and implement changes to enable best practice supplier management
  • Ensure that all quality requirements and standards are met in the delivery of all work packages and ensure the relevant quality control measures are adhered to
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with all key stakeholders, including customer and suppliers, maintaining regular communication and managing expectations
  • Lead effective communications and employee engagement, to foster a culture of openness, feedback, two-way dialogue and honesty to ensure people are aware and engaged in their delivery contribution.
  • Ensure learning, knowledge and experience are shared to promote an integrated team approach and enable a more effective and efficient operation.
  • Continuously monitor employee resource requirements to free up resources when possible and to provide a resource plan for future activity.

What we’re looking for


  • This role requires a solid procurement background and a good understanding of complex technical programmes
  • The role requires excellent and broad Supply Chain knowledge and a breadth of business knowledge and expertise, including good business, market and competitor knowledge as well as depth of vision and creativity and an ability to develop Supply Chain strategy to support business objectives and strategy
  • MCIPS or working towards MCIPS, IACCM, or equivalent
  • Previous Procurement and Subcontract experience in an IT environment preferable, including in depth experience across strategic sourcing, contract negotiations and forming supplier relationships
  • Establishing and managing subcontracts in large prime contractor projects
  • Broad Digital or IT sector knowledge would be a advantage but is not essential
  • Experience as a lead within an organisation of an equivalent size and scope
  • Defence supply chain experience
  • Will provide leadership, capability and processes to deliver project, functional or business unit objectives
  • Will be a subject-matter expert managing project and customer expectations in accordance with BAE Systems business processes and to agreed performance targets
  • Takes a leading role in all elements of Supply Chain, understanding the interfaces and making suggestions for how processes can be improved and driving improvement activity
  • Financial management experience of complex subcontracts.
  • Ability to drive supplier analysis, evaluation, selection and maintain supplier strategy.
  • The ability to deliver tangible project savings in a challenging environments
  • Experience of DEFCONS useful
  • Experience with Government contracts useful
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
  • Good degree in relevant subject.
  • Experience with tools such as SalesForce and Confluence useful
