Our Vision
DPIA's vision is to empower those seeking sanctuary to become fully integrated into society. Our goal is to support asylum seekers in Wales to become more integrated, self-sufficient, and confident.
Main purpose of the post
- To work directly with asylum seekers and newly qualified refugees to better understand British/ Welsh culture, law, and systems.
- To improve the knowledge of asylum seekers and newly qualified refugees about health services and how to access them.
- To reduce social isolation among asylum seekers and newly qualified refugees and increase well-being and resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver community integration and health literacy information sessions to asylum seekers and newly qualified refugees to improve their knowledge and ability to integrate Welsh culture and access public services.
- Support asylum seekers and refugees who are currently engaged in our services to feel confident in reporting hate crime incidents.
- Increase awareness of hate crime as part of regular cultural orientation and integration workshops.
- Organise wellbeing and personal development sessions and encourage asylum seekers and refugees to participate in community based learning opportunities including signposting to digital literacy courses.
- Ensure participants are supported with relevant skill development and training opportunities to contribute happily and effectively.
- Collaborate effectively with DPIA’s existing projects and work closely with relevant partners to promote Shaping My Future (SMF) Project activities.
- Recruit, supervise, train SMF project volunteers to deliver information sessions on cultural orientation and knowledge of the UK health system.
- Organize and conduct social outings and coffee mornings
