Supplier Development Engineer

Salary: Negotiable

Morson is currently seeking a talented and driven Supplier Development Engineer to join our prestigious Aerospace client. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in managing manufacturers and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality Aerospace components. The successful candidate will be based in Prestwick, with frequent travel to supplier sites across the UK.

This role combines the expertise of Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and Supplier Liaison Officer. Strong stakeholder management skills are crucial in this position as you will be embedded with suppliers to resolve supply issues. You will also support our business unit and group procurement strategy by selecting, developing, and growing a robust global supply chain to meet current and future business requirements. Our ideal candidate has experience working with engineering suppliers to create recovery plans and a strong background in supply chain management. This is a 6-month contract with a negotiable rate, close to an Umbrella rate of £40 per hour plus travel expenses.

Responsibilities:

  • Collate engineering data packs and manufacturing methods to support business unit and global sourcing strategies.
  • Analyse work statements to identify areas for improvement.
  • Assist with technical assessment phase for RFP submissions from suppliers, reviewing manufacturing plans and technical capability.
  • Lead the supplier technical and risk assessment process prior to contract award.
  • Facilitate supplier negotiations and workshops, challenging prices through value engineering reviews.
  • Provide LAI, FAI, and quality support in the supply base for both the business unit and group, with expertise in the flow down of quality requirements.
  • Participate in value engineering workshops with suppliers to identify continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Contribute to customer-driven value engineering workshops to identify cost reduction and lean opportunities.
  • Lead supplier impact analysis on major engineering changes and re-designs.
  • Identify training and development needs for Supplier Development Engineering staff through the PDR process.

Essential Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Quality Engineering or Supply Chain Management.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively interface with customers and suppliers.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering systems and the ability to deploy the Quality Toolset.
  • Expertise in continuous improvement and lean tools.
  • Commercial, contractual, and financial awareness.
  • Understanding of developing manufacturing methodologies and technologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access.

Desirable Requirements:

  • HNC qualification in a related Quality or Manufacturing Engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with AS 9100 and regulatory authority approval and certification requirements.
  • Project management skills.
  • Experience in quality management within the Aerospace industry.

Due to the sensitive nature of this work, suitable candidates must be SC cleared or eligible for this level of clearance. SC clearance must be in place before the start date.
