Job Title: Supplier Development Engineer

Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 (Depending on Experience)

Location : Peterborough / Stafford / Shrewsbury will all be considered.

Job Summary 

We have two opportunities to join our Supplier Development Team to provide on-site assistance & leadership to Caterpillar’s supply base in the execution of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), the implementation of process control and the deployment of a continuous quality improvement processes.  To ensure that suppliers are able to meet corporate and business unit requirements for certification and quality of purchased material. The positions can be based at either our Peterborough, Stafford or Shrewsbury facilities.

We are happy to consider applications from both experienced SDE's looking to continue to develop their career and work with a diverse, complex supply base or candidates that are establishing a career within Supplier Development that can demonstrate experience of working alongside suppliers and demonstrate a working knowledge of quality tools.

What You Will Do:

  • Ensuring the quality of supplies by conducting tests and assessments on incoming supplies to identify any quality issues; Developing supplier inspection, testing, and evaluation mechanism.

  • Generating reports on supplier quality, by monitoring their defect rates and areas that can lead to potential flaws; Guiding suppliers to reduce these defect rates.

  • Researching the potential vendors, assessing their manufacturing environment, practices, and procedures; Conducting supplier quality control audits to ensure compliance with organizational and federal policies and standards.

  • Supporting suppliers in improving their performance through process enhancements, implementing process controls, and developing quality assurance plans.

What You Have:

Demonstrate experience of the following skills:

  • Experience executing quality processes with engineering suppliers.

  • Sound knowledge and experience of APQP, including the PPAP process, FMEA’s, control plans, process flow, GR&R, and capability studies.

  • Experience of applying 8D process or other structured problem-solving techniques in a manufacturing environment.

  • Industry experience in Manufacturing, Industrial, Automotive, or Aerospace.

  • Process Improvement: Understanding and insight into evaluating current product quality and production methods and ability to maintains focus on the continuous improvement of processes, products and services.

  • Supplier Management: Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice.

  • Supplier Evaluations and Certification: Knowledge of supplier evaluations and certification; ability to identify the methods, tools and documentation for evaluating, selecting and certifying vendors, suppliers and partners.

Highly skilled candidates will also demonstrate one or more of the following:

  • Experience working with suppliers.

  • Project management experience.

  • Technical or Engineering degree level educational qualification.

  • Ability to read engineering drawings.    

  • Material metallurgical experience

  • Experience of working with CNC machining (milling and turning)

  • Measurement techniques
