Job description

THE ROLE: Part-time (18.5 hours per week) / Permanent / Job description and application pack are available to download from our website.

Our mission is to help children and young people have a fair chance to be who they want to be. We do this by providing a safe home, increasing life skills and self-confidence, and improving emotional wellbeing and mental health.

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding role where you are able to empower young people every day to develop their skills and move towards independence? Then this could be the role for you.

You will be working as part of a wider team of project workers across Hastings, Hailsham and Eastbourne who provide supported accommodation for over 100 young people at risk of homelessness. As aSupport Coach you will provide targeted support to children and young people, enabling young people to integrate into their local community ensuring they have the wider support they require, including language courses and volunteering opportunities. You will help young people to articulate and achieve their aspirations and ambitions, acquiring the confidence they need to live independent and fulfilling lives, focusing on employment, education and training as part of an integrated learning and support pathway.

You will facilitate and encourage co-production in engagement activity to amplify young people's voices within supported housing services, including facilitating monthly resident’s meetings, youth surveys and consultations with young people and in organisation-wide initiatives such as the YMCA Youth Council, ensuring that young people have an opportunity to influence their service provision.

Based on site across our projects in Eastbourne and Hastings with variable start and end times to best meet the commitments of the young people. Shifts to be discussed at interview.

ABOUT YOU: We know there are great candidates who may not fit everything described, or who have important skills we have not mentioned. If that is you, please do not hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself and why perhaps you are looking to take the next step.

You will already have experience in delivery of information and guidance to children and young people aged 16-25, individually or in groups. Experience of youth work and working with young people who have experienced homelessness or past trauma with some knowledge and understanding of the needs of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people including specific barriers to education or employment, and of statutory and voluntary resources available to them. Additionally, knowledge and experience of co-production, youth participation and influencing with experience of working with young people in an educational, training, advice or supported housing setting would be advantageous.
