Job description

Salary – £32,217 - £48,516

Type – Permanent

Status – Full Time

Currently, Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 32 primary schools (19 of which have nurseries) and 2 stand alone nursery schools. Our special school, Saltersgate, provides support for children with a range of physical, social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. The schools range in size from our smallest primary school with around 20 children to our largest secondary with over 1200 pupils. We have a diverse range of school catchments, from rural to urban settings. We are fortunate to have a growing number of new build schools, with 15 of our primary schools and 2 secondary having been built within the last 10 years and several new builds planned.

Midlothian Inclusion and Wellbeing Service

The Midlothian Inclusion and Wellbeing Service (MIWBS) supports primary and secondary learners with social, emotional and behavioural needs. The service consists of 3 primary provisions, an outreach support service for primary and secondary, one secondary provision plus outreach support for those experiencing school anxieties and for care experienced children and young people. The primary and secondary provisions are based on a shared placement model where the learner maintains links with their mainstream school. The time spent across both settings is agreed through the initial referral and constantly reviewed through the child planning process. Learners are referred to the MIWBS by their schools and allocated through the ERG process. However, there are a number of recommended supports that must have been used and evidenced before going to ERG.

As part of Midlothian’s multi-agency approach, the Inclusion and Wellbeing Service aims to support learning and inclusion for vulnerable children and young people. The MIWBS will seek to mitigate the cycle of disadvantage which impacts disproportionately on the children and young people in Midlothian who are our target population. The purpose of our service is to meet the needs of the most vulnerable by improving educational experiences, promoting inclusion and improving positive life outcomes through access to additional, quality, education support.

Applicants should note that the service is currently included in an ASN review. As a result, any successful applicants will initially be located within our secondary provision but subject to re-location based on the outcome of the review.
