Job description

Job Advert
Important information for applicants: please note, this position is not suitable for anyone who is looking to obtain sponsorship for a Skilled Worker Visa or currently holds a Skilled Worker Visa and is looking to switch sponsorship to a new employer. This is due to the fact the salary rate for this position does not meet the UKVI’s current minimum annual salary threshold requirements for sponsorship. If you are resident in the UK and do not require sponsorship we would love to hear from you!
We are looking for passionate and enthusiastic Support Workers to join our fantastic service in Edenbridge on a permanent basis. We have various contracts available including Full time, Part time and Relief.
As a Support Worker with Mencap, we understand that flexibility is key for both yourself and for the service. While we do require flexibility with shifts throughout the day, we understand you have a life outside of work too. Things come up that you need to work around, and we will do our very best to ensure our rotas are done to allow for that trip to the dentist.
As each service is different, so too are the requirements and shift patterns. As a general guide; typical shifts include 10am - 6pm and 11am - 7pm with sleep in shifts depending on the contract offered. The people we support only require verbal prompts for Personal Care as this is a very independent service - a great chance to have a daily reminder of the difference you're making each shift. You will receive an enhanced flat rate payment of £61.20 for any sleep in shifts carried out. The payment for sleep ins is non-contractual.
What does a Support Worker do?
As a Support Worker you will be expected to provide an outstanding level of support that will help to ensure the people we support live a more comfortable, dignified, liberated and happy life. You will have excellent communication skills and be a naturally caring and patient personality. Typical responsibilities may include:
- Supporting people to live independently – budget management, paying bills, housework, organising appointments and cooking delicious healthy meals.
- Excellent communication skills and Relationship building – supporting the people we support to understand the world around them and promoting positive relationships.
- Community & Social Inclusion - supporting individuals to access and participate in their local community and social events to promote life skills and individuality.
- Personal care - helping people to get ready for the day. This may include prompting the people we support to take their medication and assisting with bathing, showering and using the bathroom. Not all Support Worker roles include high levels of personal care.
