ABOUT ME
I am a 53-year-old lady who lives in Hammersmith & Fulham in London with my Mum. I am a leading self-advocate, disability activist and consultant who also works alongside individual’s with learning disabilities to support them to lead fulfilling lives. I have a network of friends and colleagues around the country who are important to me. I am also the co-author of the Keys to Citizenship (with my friend Simon Duffy) and as part of this I spend time travelling both in the UK and overseas, speaking to people about the book.
It is important to me to be able to live my life like anyone else and to live as independently as I can. I want to be able to have control over my own life and be able to make my own mistakes so that I can learn from them.
I enjoy watching football and am a season ticket holder at Arsenal football club.
I use a wheelchair but can stand for short periods of time and am working with a personal trainer to strengthen the muscles in my legs.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Do you want to help someone to have a real life?
On a day-to-day basis, I require 1:1 support; one hour in the mornings usually around 8.30am to help me to get up and ready for the day and one hour in the evenings usually around 9pm. It is important to me that I am given time to try and do things for myself and will ask for help if I am finding something difficult. Once a week for 2 hours I will also require support with domestic tasks such as cleaning, washing and ironing and may also require help with shopping.
There may also be times when I will require you to accompany me on trips overseas and therefore you be required to have a valid passport.
ABOUT YOU
I am looking for someone who can see me as me and who is willing to help me to look forward as well as encouraging me to try new things and activities. It is important that you are open minded and get to know how best to support me. It is also important that you can be flexible, I live a busy life where no two days are the same and due to this there may be times when I require support at different times during the day.
BENEFITS
In return for your dedication, you’ll receive a competitive rate of pay in addition to:
- 5.6 weeks holiday per year (pro-rata for part-time positions).
- Company pension scheme after 3 months’ service, subject to the scheme rules.
- Opportunity to join our Cash Back Health Plan, after successful completion of the probation period.
