Job description

Position: Survey Technician

Location: Oxford area, UK

Job Purpose: As a Survey Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring that work is conducted safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively while upholding the highest standards. Your responsibilities will include conducting surveys using specialized equipment, processing and analyzing data using software packages, and preparing detailed reports and drawings for clients.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Identify and escalate instances of scope change, queries, or challenges requiring mitigation.
  • Maintain clear communication with team members, support functions, and clients through regular contact.
  • Report any unsafe practices or instances of quality/service failure.
  • Ensure strict compliance with company policies and procedures for consistent work delivery.
  • Contribute to Quality, Safety, and Environmental initiatives to foster a proactive Health and Safety culture.
  • Evaluate and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Provide support to other technicians and departments as needed.
  • Maintain and calibrate monitoring equipment, ensuring optimal functionality.
  • Minimize costs by selecting products and services based on value and minimizing overtime and agency use.
  • Maximize communication effectiveness at all times.
  • Support organizational change and provide flexibility within structural constraints.
  • Take accountability for safety when working as the 'person in charge,' ensuring the safety of all personnel involved.
  • Complete mandatory vehicle checks and training requirements to maintain compliance with standards.

Operational Staff Responsibilities:

  • Follow safety protocols and procedures; invoke Worksafe procedure if safety is compromised.
  • Complete necessary documentation promptly, including under agency protection.

Person in Charge / COSS Responsibilities:

  • Oversee worksite safety, holding ultimate responsibility for safety decisions.
  • Verify and authorize Safe Work Packs (SWP) in consultation with the Project Manager.
  • Ensure completion of site documentation within specified timelines.

Essential Experience, Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications:

  • Ability to solve operational problems with judgment and discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build cooperative relationships.
  • Industry-specific competencies and a full driving license.
  • Proficiency in surveying techniques, instrumentation, and office applications.
  • CSCS card.
  • Rail competence PTS.

Desirable Experience, Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications:

  • Railway competencies such as Controller of Site Safety, Lookout & Site Warden.
  • Expertise in AutoCAD, Landscape software, and civil engineering projects.
  • Flexibility to contribute to strategic challenges beyond the monitoring business unit.
