The Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Manager will be responsible for regularly reviewing and overseeing primarily the environmental aspects, but also the social and corporate governance policies and procedures for this commercial company based in Rochester, Kent
The position plays a key role in providing expertise, education and representation to internal and external stakeholders on all matters relating to environmental impact and social value, as well as driving a culture of general sustainability throughout the company.
Key Functions of the Sustainability Manager
- Understanding company environmental aspects and their relative impact with a view to prioritising areas of focus and targets for reduction
- Lead for the annual and ongoing ESG strategy reviews, including development and monitoring of an effective carbon reduction pathway
- Lead on maintaining BS EN ISO14001 and other current accreditations
- Investigation & implementation of other green standards, awards, or initiatives
- Developing KPIs and monitoring progress to report on ESG performance to internal and external stakeholders
- Lead on carbon impact data gathering and monitoring of current Scope 1 & 2 emissions.
- Developing and Implementation of next stage strategy for Scope 3 data gathering, supply chain engagement and reduction targets
- Provide advice and consultation upstream and downstream, as required, regarding topics relating to ESG and general sustainability
- Maintaining compliance with current ESG and sustainability related legislation, standards and best practice
- Audit environmental practices and processes as per the company internal audit programme
- Sit on, and be a champion of, the company ESG Steering group
- Create and present, where necessary, educational information to frontline and support teams to help drive a culture of sustainability and thinking process across the business
- Work alongside and liaise with the HSE Manager to embed and support company Safety, Health, and Environmental objectives
- Support the Commercial team with tender or PQQ submissions requesting information on ESG and sustainability information
- Liaise with and support the People team on employee social value initiatives
- Support company community volunteering opportunities and external social value initiatives
- Advise and support executive board, where necessary, on due diligence, reporting and governance
Role Related Skills and Abilities Required for the role of Sustainability Manager
- Relevant Qualification in Environmental Management (IEMA/NEBOSH etc)
- Experience of successfully embedding a culture of ESG within a service industry
- Knowledge of social and environmental governance and trends
- Experience of successfully implementing and monitoring ISO14001
- Experience in measuring and reporting on Scope 1 & 2 carbon emissions
- Ability to implement the company target of measuring and reporting on Scope 3 emissions
- Experience of implementing environmental impact reduction strategies
- Knowledge of the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Preferable, but not essential:
- Knowledge of ISO45001 and/or ISO9001 Management Systems
- Internal audit experience
- Qualification/Certification in Health, Safety and risk assessment
