Carbon Policy Manager
The Opportunity:
Do you want to support the transition to Net Zero? We are looking for a Carbon Policy Manager on a 12-month fixed term contract to support our exciting ongoing projects and sustainability strategy.
What's the role?
Reporting into the Head of Sustainability, you'll lead Gatwick's approach to reducing aircraft and surface access emissions. You'll use your engagement and project management skills to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders. You'll also take the lead in Gatwick's approach to carbon offsetting and air quality.
What you'll be doing
  • Strategic lead for reducing aircraft, surface access, and airport vehicle emissions.
  • Lead engagement and represent Gatwick with appropriate industry bodies and schemes, such as Sustainable Aviation, Jet Zero and DfT, and third-party stakeholders, such as airlines.
  • Maintain an up-to-date picture of market developments, best practice, key technological developments, and academic research required to achieve Net Zero aviation (including: hydrogen, electric planes, SAF etc).
  • Develop and implement Gatwick's strategy for hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuel.
  • Maintain an up-to-date picture of international and UK policies identifying risks and opportunities for Gatwick relating to aviation and surface access emissions.
  • Contribute to achieving and maintaining Airport Carbon Accreditation Level 4+
  • Lead Gatwick's approach to carbon offsetting
  • Lead Gatwick's approach to Air Quality

Do you have what we're looking for?
  • Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in a relevant field
  • Strong technical understanding of carbon management is essential, we can give you the airport insight depending on your industry background.
  • Strong communication and engagement skills to all level stakeholders and external parties
  • Knowledge and interest in the aviation sector and associated carbon issues is desirable.
  • Research skills including ability to translate results into meaningful understanding for Gatwick, including potential impacts on any/all aspects of the business.
  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills including ability to advise senior management.
  • Experience of understanding and translating policy and regulations to a business environment, including responding to consultations.
