We are currently looking for a Sustainability Officer to cover a maternity leave period of 6 months to 1 year. In this role, you will help drive and deliver on our ambitious hotel sustainability values and goals by developing and coordinating sustainability initiatives that drive our ambition of transitioning to Net Zero emissions 1 and 2 by 2028 and scope 3 by 2035, establishing an evidenced ESG.
As leaders of sustainable hospitality, we are the first hotel in UK to become Climate Positive and are silver certified by Earthcheck. Your role would be to drive all initiatives to help us build and continue on this journey.
The role:
You will coordinate day to day relationships with our sustainability partners, working with the online platforms of NOW Sustainability, Earthcheck, Sustainable Wellness Association and Greenly. You will collect and analyse data linked with our sustainability plans, policies and procedures and produce reports associated with energy, waste, water, transport and freight. You will coordinate monthly Sustainable Task Force meetings, driving initiatives and actions. Forging strong business links with local sustainable groups in the community, you will actively educate and coach the wider hotel team, further embedding a sustainable culture. You will champion recycling, monitor waste management initiatives, and actively seek suppliers with evidenced sustainability credentials. These are just some of the varied duties involved in this role.
Skills and experience:
- An experienced Sustainability Officer who has worked in a sustainability focused role
- Ideally some experience of hospitality
- A sustainability or environmental related degree would be ideal, as would knowledge of Earthcheck.org. However, we are also happy to provide Earthcheck training.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence others.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong IT skills
- Innovative – able to look externally for best practice and apply creative thinking to challenge the norm
- Logical, analytical and problem-solving skills – able to provide insights and seek solutions
- Sound project management skills, able to collaborate and manage end to end projects
- Knowledge of a hotel operation
- A passion for Environmental, Social, Governance and sustainability
