Role:                Technical Lead Engineer (Database)

Department:     Information Systems

Location:          Melton or Moss Way, Sheffield

Salary:              £40,950 - £45,546

Hours:              37        

Contract Type: Permanent

 

As part of the Information Systems Department and reporting to the Data Services Manager, the successful candidates will join a team of specialist technology staff across Humberside and South Yorkshire Police. The team delivers and supports a wide range of databases that underpin applications that are critical to operational policing and the support services offered by both Forces.

This is an exciting opportunity to use your skills and knowledge to support policing in Humberside and South Yorkshire Police Forces. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, fast-paced team whose key responsibilities are managing incidents, problems, database installation and support for Force systems as well working on future projects.

As a Technical Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing expert advice around Force data and the technologies used to store and manage it. 
  • Leading on future database requirements and formulating proposals to meet the Force’s needs. 
  • Demonstrating excellent customer service standards. 
  • Ensuring that incident, problem and change management procedures are adhered to, whilst finding ways to accelerate service delivery to customers. 
  • Proactive monitoring of Forces Databases to minimise the risk of system downtime.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders. 
  • The completion of IT security remediation actions.
  • Assisting the Data Services Manager in the identification and documentation of risks and issues. 
  • Providing guidance on business continuity arrangements for the Data Services Team.
  • Deputising for line manager as necessary. 
  • Taking part in the IT On call rota as required. 
  • Advocating a can-do culture. 

Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent Technical Ability in MS SQL Server.
  • Flexible and adaptable to a fast-changing environment.
  • Able to remain calm under pressure, consistent in daily tasks and committed to customer service.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
