Job description

Job Title:System Design Authority - Radar

Location: Great Baddow, Cowes, or Portsmouth, we offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Circa £65,000 depending on skills and experience plus bonus

 

What you'll be doing:

  • Technical Leadership and Governance: Providing governance and technical leadership, assessing trade studies, risks, and impacts, while guiding senior engineers and creating innovative solutions
  • Leadership and Review: Leading internal design reviews, acting as technical focus for Life-Cycle Management (LCM) and external reviews, and working with System Design Authorities (SDAs) to share information and challenge design principles
  • System Definition and Design Integrity: Leading system definition, requirements, interface design, and ensuring design integrity, certification, and safety for radar system performance
  • Customer and Sub-Contractor Interface: Representing BAE Systems as the System Design Authority at customer facilities, interface with sub-contract OEMs, achieve customer acceptance, and address technical queries
  • Research and Development: Initiating and collaborating on experimental studies and research with external organisations and academic institutions to enhance product capabilities
  • Independence and Integrity: Working with a high degree of independence and maintain strong technical integrity in all tasks and responsibilities

 

Your skills and experiences:

  • Experience in complex engineering system/sub-System Design and development. Degree (BEng/MEng Hons) or PhD in a relevant field suitable for application to Radar Engineering Design (e.g., STEM).
  • Chartered Engineer desirable (or willing to work towards)
  • Significant knowledge of complex naval systems and their key components, able to appreciate the breadth of disciplines required and how the sub-system interfaces are defined and managed
  • Knowledge and experience of Lifecycle Management, Risk Analysis and Management, Reliability, Maintainability and Logistics
  • Ability to present complex information and concepts to a wide range of stakeholders both internally and externally by building strong relationships
