Job description

The GE Aerospace Take2Flight program is for experienced professionals ready to return to work after a career break of one year or longer. Pausing your career to focus on other things can be an asset to your journey instead of a hurdle! This direct hire program, meaning the relauncher is hired as an employee from day one, with 12-weeks of customized programming exists to support relaunchers to ease back into full-time technical positions with a team who understands and appreciates non-traditional career journeys, unique skills, and life experience like yours. You can return to a career alongside others (as a cohort) who share in this journey, and receive guidance from mentors and people leaders who are motivated to support you.
At GE Aerospace, we believe the world works better when it flies. We are a world-leading provider of jet engines, components, and integrated systems for commercial and military aircraft. Working at GE Aerospace means you are bringing your unique perspective, innovative spirit, drive, and curiosity to a collaborative and diverse team. It means that if you have ideas, we will listen. You will be able to be a part of our LEAN transformation so that you can work smarter and not harder. At GE Aerospace, you will do work that you will be proud of. Work that really matters.
Within the Lifecycle Engineering team, as a Lead Engineer, you will lead mechanical design efforts around product durability, validation, and GE9X Entry into Service preparations.

In this role, you will have some autonomy to focus on the execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures.  With a job at this level you will work closely with cross functional partners to develop in-depth knowledge and expertise to make technically sound decisions with some level of evidence. You will act in the capacity of an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills, execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.

Take2Flight Program Career Relaunchers work in a commercial product line engineering role:

  • Lead efforts around product durability including the completion of validation activity, repair substantiation efforts, support the leading indicator program and partnering with product support engineering.
  • Utilizes technical judgment and analytical thinking to develop expertise in turbomachinery that enables novel solutions to complex engineering and manufacturing challenges.
  • Develops knowledge of best practices and how the system integrates with other areas; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.
  • Executes the design, analysis, evaluation, test and/or integration of engine components, assemblies or systems using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures and requirements.
  • Acts as a collaborative team member with peers and stakeholders. Serves as a mentor to less-experienced colleagues. Uses interpersonal skills to clearly explain information and support the development of colleagues. Promotes open dialogue and timely communication on significant developments.
  • Accurately documents processes, procedures and results. Participates in technical and program reviews as presenter and reviewer. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources to arrive at decisions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • At least 5 additional years of experience in an engineering design position
  • At least 1 year or more of a professional career break

Desired Characteristics

  • Humble: respectful, receptive, agile, eager to learn
  • Transparent: shares critical information, speaks with honesty, contributes constructively
  • Focused: quick learner, strategically prioritizes work, committed
  • Leadership ability: strong communicator, decision-maker, and collaborative teammate
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
