Your new role
Operating as an expert in your field of VAT and Tax computations, compliance and development of process. You will work closely with the Financial Control team, reporting to Financial Directors and have excellent stakeholder engagement skills to ensure all wider professional service departments are up-to-date with requirements and process. With proven analytical skills, a desire to improve and develop within the field and also undertake projects working with both internal and external stakeholders, maintaining excellent working relationships.
What you'll need to succeed
As a professionally qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA/CIPFA/ICAS), you will have a well-developed understanding and execution of VAT, TAX and CIS processes and remain up-to-date with legislation. In addition, maintaining your wider understanding of financial processes and how efficiencies can be achieved will contribute to your success in this post. As an experienced supervisor and team manager, your ability to motivate and support learning and development will be called upon, as well as build enduring relationships across the organisation.
Your experience could include taking responsibility for VAT accounting - including quarterly VAT return, Voluntary Disclosures and Assessments. Maintaining a robust VAT Partial Exemption and Capital Goods Scheme regime which will satisfy HMRC whilst maximising VAT recovery, and keep this under review. In terms of further development in the role, you will be confident in undertaking projects to document, maintain and regularly review all system processes with VAT implications to ensure compliance with UK VAT legislation, as well as being responsible for the annual Corporation tax return across all UK and overseas subsidiaries.
In the current climate, it is of key importance that you are able to support Procurement in advising and assisting colleagues across the campus on the correct process for imports post-Brexit. Reviewing monthly MSS imports data from HMRC, investigating any anomalies and making any necessary adjustments in respect of import VAT on the quarterly VAT return as well as completion and submission of Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) returns for the development subsidiaries.
