Abbey College Cambridge is seeking an Art and Design teacher to join the Humanities Department from the academic year 2024/2025. The Humanities department at Abbey College Cambridge is made up of 6 teaching staff, and covers a range of subjects including History, Politics, Geography, English Literature and Art. Subjects are taught at GCSE and A level (both traditional 2-year programmes and our 18-month course, beginning in January rather than September - catering for overseas markets with alternative timelines). We are also introducing Year 9 courses in Humanities from September 2024.
The Humanities department is a friendly and collaborative team from a range of backgrounds. The diversity of subjects, students and staff creates an open and engaging culture, built around mutual respect, humour and the sharing of best practice. The team meets regularly to discuss key elements of transferable teaching practice, student support and intervention. Differentiated resources and detailed schemes of work are available for all courses but individual teacher adaption is encouraged and welcomed. Internal assessments are scheduled across the year and support with the creation and marking of examples papers is available.
GCSE Art and Design at Abbey College Cambridge follows the AQA syllabus. The A Level course also follows the AQA syllabus with a focus on Fine Art. Art and Design students are given regular opportunities to take part in life drawing exercises as well as excursions to institutions such as the Curwen Print Study Centre. The college also runs its own Pre-Degree Diploma which aims to support students with applications to higher level study in the Art and Design field such as architecture and illustration.

Qualifications and Experience
You should demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of Art and Design and have a proven track record of successful teaching and inspiring students. You will need to be an excellent communicator, highly organised and able to manage your own workload.
You will hold an Art degree or a related subject and ideally have a PGCE in Education or equivalent teaching qualification. You will be forward-thinking and innovative, exploring ways in which we can further support students and provide opportunities for all of our community to reflect the school's values. You will be a highly motivated, and creative individual who has a passion for teaching and inspiring students to outstanding achievement.
