Job PurposeThe post of Teacher of Biology (With Additional Science) at St Leonard represents an outstanding opportunity for a first-rate teacher to teach Biology and Science at all levels. This is an exciting time to be joining St Leonards, a successful International Baccalaureate school, as it approaches its 150th anniversary and builds on its success as one of the UK’s leading independent schools.Under the direction of the Head of Biology, the Teacher of Biology, will make an active contribution to the wider academic life and strategy of the School as it embarks on an ambitious development plan in time for the anniversary celebrations in 2027.The Biology and Science department aims to develop enquiring minds, enriching their academic experience, whilst providing an engaging curriculum full of memorable experiences and rich opportunities for learning. As such, a passionate, lively and resourceful approach will be important, with an awareness and ability to challenge pupils with high expectations and aspirations. The Teacher of Biology should be able to teach a broad range of skills, techniques and subject knowledge within an interdisciplinary approach. As part of a small team, the successful candidate will help to make a positive difference in the IB and GCSE curriculum as well as to the lives of the pupils being taught. Key Responsibilities:To teach the Biology curriculum to an excellent standard and to promote and contribute to the overall provision within the Science Department, as well as to the School’s various curricular programmesOrganise classes and lessons to ensure that all pupils are productively employed when working individually, in groups or as a class.To promote and maintain the high standards of pupil achievement and contribute to the development of outstanding teaching practice across the departmentTo continually update knowledge regarding ‘best practice’ in the teaching of Biology and Science through personal practice, research, and trainingTo use performance data for pupil target setting and progress monitoringManage pupil behaviour fairly, sensitively and consistently by the use of appropriate rewards and sanctions and know when it is necessary to seek advice.Demonstrate an understanding of the IB programmes (DP, MYP, PYP) and UK educational systems (especially GCSE/IGCSE).Further details and particulars of the role can be found in the candidate pack.Benefits include Generous remission on school fees for children of staff. Teacher's Pension SchemeFree lunches in school restaurant during term timeCycle to work schemeEmployee Assistance ProgrammeAbout St LeonardsSt Leonards is a friendly and forward-looking independent, coeducational, boarding and day school situated on an historic campus at the heart of the university town of St Andrews.
