The Music Department of Lagan College is a lively hub of creativity and learning within the school, with an established choir, orchestra, drum group, traditional group, string ensemble, wind ensemble and other ensembles including bands, where students of all abilities and ages are encouraged to participate and realise their musical potential.
The facilities in the Department are excellent and include an Apple Music Technology suite and high specification recording studio, as well as two other Music classrooms each with their own recording facilities, keyboards and class sets of ukuleles. All three teaching rooms have three group rooms connected to them that allow for group composition, practice and performance. These group rooms are equipped with electric guitars, bass guitar, electronic drum kit, cajon, acoustic guitar, DJ set ups and keyboard.
Currently, the department has two full time teachers, one part time teacher, a technician and thirteen peripatetic instrumental staff.
Music has always been considered to be an important part of the curriculum in Lagan College. All students in Years 8 – 10 are timetabled for weekly Music lessons during which they learn to listen, compose and perform music in a variety of genres. Music is offered at GCSE, AS and A2.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for inclusive and innovative music education to make a positive contribution in an all-ability integrated school, which continues to be pioneering in its approach to teaching and learning.
