An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Rotherham Visual Impairment Team as a Teacher of the Vision Impaired. We are looking for an outstanding teacher with a passion and commitment to making a difference to children’s lives.
We are a specialist team of education professionals who support Children and Young people from 0-25 years across the Rotherham Borough with a Visual Impairment. The role is focused on promoting the access, communication, achievements and well-being of CYP with a Vision Impairment, many of whom have additional or complex needs. Being a QTVI is fast paced, variable and involves working in a range of settings. The role involves teaching and monitoring of pupils, supporting setting staff and promoting independence.
Applicants must have direct experience of supporting pupils with SEND and have child-centred, inclusive and collaborative approaches to teaching. The role will involve supporting pupils to become independent and successful in life and learning through teaching specific skills e.g., braille, tactile/compensatory abilities, ICT and self-advocacy. You will have responsibility for a caseload of pupils, across a range of settings and will manage your time effectively to meet pupils needs.
You will need be flexible, proactive and have an ability to prioritise need in response to changes in caseload/service requirements.
You will have a love of learning and enjoy developing your skills and knowledge alongside excellent communication skills. If you are successful, you will need to complete a 2 Year Mandatory Qualification towards Qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired status. Whilst undertaking this training, you will receive a package of support from experienced staff within the team.
The successful applicant will have experience of working with CYP with a range of SEND. Experience/knowledge of EYFS, CVI (Cortical Visual Impairment) and specialist settings are highly desirable as the successful candidate will hold a caseload primarily covering these pupils. However ability to work across all settings is essential to the role.
