Job description

The Levels School is an independent specialist day school offering high quality education and exemplary pastoral care to students with dyslexia and co-occurring difficulties. Our teaching and learning provision would also meet the needs of individuals presenting with a similar learning profile to those with other Speech and Language Communication difficulties. As a result, many of our students have a range of complex, specific learning, social communication, and emotional difficulties.

The Visual Communications department aims to facilitate students to develop a keen interest in all areas of Visual Communications and Design. This is done by enabling each student to learn without feeling anxious of failure, to work together and to support each other to develop their own creativity through experimentation and reflection. Workshops and projects are underpinned through learning about the work of artists, designers, craftspeople, and cultures. We achieve this through experimenting with a wide range of media and materials. At The Levels School a personalised Visual Communications curriculum is delivered and as such the materials used and the outcomes achieved vary depending upon the students’ own interests, abilities, and needs.

The role of Teacher of Visual Communications is offered on a full time or part time, permanent basis. We are advertising due to growth and development alongside requiring some maternity cover. The successful applicant could start September 24. There is the potential for a start date of May 24. We are looking to appoint a flexible, adaptable and dedicated individual with experience in working with students with SpLD and some SEMH difficulties as a result of their barriers to learning.
Package DescriptionStaff parking, Occupational Health App, Staff Laptop
Main ResponsibilitiesAs a teacher of Visual Communications at The Levels School, you will be working under the direction of the Head Teacher, and alongside our teachers of Performing Arts. A passion for your subject/s and working with students and assisting them on their journey, which almost certainly will have included literacy difficulties in a mainstream environment. Enthusiasm and the ability to work as part of a team, is as important as experience, as you will need to inspire as well as teach.

You will be able to demonstrate a range of multi-sensory teaching techniques and be prepared to go above and beyond for the young people we support. It is important that you are ambitious for all our students and have desire to problem solve and work as a cog in a small team to unpick the nature of students SpLD so that strategies can be put in place to allow each student to achieve their maximum potential.

Starting in a relatively new school (Opened January 2021) you will have the opportunity to work as part of a supportive team, developing our Visual Communications provision working in a dynamic environment where you can make a real difference. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates from mainstream or specialist education. All students follow a slightly reduced GCSE curriculum with some entry level certificates offered in some subjects.

Following an induction and training programme, your duties will include:

Facilitate and encourage learning which enables students to achieve
Preparing, planning and assessing teaching sessions whilst maintaining an awareness of curriculum developments

Build relationships with all young people, which will encourage their interest and participation in their education
