Job description

At OFG, we work smarter so you can spend more time doing the things you love!

How would you like to be paid for five days but only work four*?

Our colleagues’ wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do at OFG, so we’re always looking for new ways to improve everyone’s work/life balance. We’re taking part in a trial of the 4-Day Working Week, meaning that you could be working one day less a week (or equivalent).

If the trial is a success, we’ll be rolling the 4DWW out across the Group – so there’s never been a more exciting time to join #teamOFG!

Become a Teaching Assistant Apprentice at The Wenlock School part of Acorn Education and Care and start working towards yours.

About Us

The Wenlock School opened in September 2018. We are a co-educational day school catering for pupils aged 7-18 with a range of complex needs including a range of social, emotional and mental health needs and also pupils who have been diagnosed with autism or demonstrate behaviours associated with autism. The Wenlock School is an Outstanding provision and a leading light for our young people and their families. The uniqueness of every child is recognised and valued, and our curriculum embraces the community, from which it exists, recognising and celebrating the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our growing cohort.

This opportunity is in Dudley, within commutable distance of Wolverhampton, Birmingham and surrounding areas.

The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice to join The Wenlock School to complete a recognised Teaching Assistant Level 3 Qualification whilst also learning to work within a school environment and have a real impact on Pupil’s lives. Join an amazing team making our schools and classrooms supportive, enriching places where vulnerable pupils and young people achieve far more than they ever expected.

Learners will build an advanced understanding of how to provide quality teaching and how to influence and support learners. Some of the areas of development include:

  • Contributing to the implementation of learning activities
  • Evaluating the performance of lesson plans and how to improve for the future
  • Working independently in teaching group and individual activities
  • Working in partnership with teachers to help support and deliver lesson plans and objectives

Entry Requirements

The Wenlock School will support you through your qualification alongside our Training Provider and you will have a dedicated mentor within school.

If you cannot provide certificates for Maths and English, you will be asked to complete your Functional Skills Maths and English as part of the apprenticeship.

You will be expected to do some ‘off-the-job (OJT) training, and you will be asked to do 20% of your contracted working hours undertaking this training. Your OJT must be relevant to the apprenticeship standard and will be supported by our school to provide you with new knowledge, skills and behaviours required for the role.

Why join Acorn Education & Care?

  • £19,233.75 per annum
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Term Time Only
  • Fixed Term Contract - 18 to 24 months with the intention to go permanent after completion
  • Fully Funded Apprenticeship
