Teaching Assistant for Year 5 Classroom - URGENT

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team and support pupils with high Special Educational Needs (SEN), including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and challenging behavioral and learning difficulties.
Job Description:
As a Teaching Assistant for our Year 5 classroom, you will play a crucial role in providing tailored support to pupils with SEN and challenging behavioral and learning difficulties. Working closely with the class teacher, you will assist in creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every child feels valued and supported. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to pupils with high SEN, including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and other needs, in line with Key Stage 2 curriculum objectives.
  • Assisting pupils with their learning activities and helping them to access the curriculum, adapting resources and strategies as needed to suit individual needs.
  • Supporting pupils with their social and emotional development, promoting positive behavior and self-regulation skills.
  • Working collaboratively with the class teacher to implement behavior management strategies and support pupils in maintaining focus and engagement.
  • Providing feedback to the class teacher on pupil progress and any concerns or observations regarding behavior or learning difficulties.
  • Creating a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where all pupils feel safe, respected, and valued.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role, preferably within a primary school setting.
  • Understanding of SEN, particularly ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and challenging behavioral and learning difficulties, and strategies for supporting pupils with these needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, teachers, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with pupils who may exhibit challenging behaviors or have complex needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in supporting pupils with SEN and challenging behaviors (desirable but not essential).
