Hours: Wednesday to Friday, 8.45am until 3.15pm
Position Overview:
Veritas Education are seeking a passionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and hard-working primary school in Lancaster. This position will be part time (job share), supporting a pupil one to one in Year 6 with highly challenging behaviours.
MAPA (MANAGEMENT OF ACTUAL OR POTENTIAL AGGRESSION) TRAINING OR TEAM TEACH TRAINING IS ESSENTIAL FOR THIS POSITION
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support to pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in the classroom setting.
- Assist the teacher in implementing EHCP and behaviour management strategies.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for all pupils, including those with challenging behaviours.
- Implement interventions to support students' social, emotional, and academic development.
- Work closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other professionals to assess students' needs and progress.
- Collaborate with colleagues to adapt lesson plans and materials to meet the diverse needs of pupils.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to pupils with SEN, both inside and outside the classroom.
- Monitor and record pupils' progress, behaviours, and achievements, and provide feedback to the teacher and SENCO.
- Communicate effectively with parents/carers, providing updates on pupils' progress and behaviour.
- Attend training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills in behaviour management and supporting pupils with SEN.
Requirements:
- Teaching Assistant Level 2 qualification or equivalent
- MAPA (MANAGEMENT OF ACTUAL OR POTENTIAL AGGRESSION) TRAINING OR TEAM TEACH TRAINING IS ESSENTIAL FOR THIS POSITION
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, preferably in a PRU/educational setting.
- Strong behaviour management skills, with the ability to implement effective strategies to support pupils with challenging behaviours.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Understanding of different SEN conditions and the impact they may have on learning and behaviour.
- Ability to adapt and be flexible in a fast-paced classroom environment.
- Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or a related field are desirable.
- Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance, or willingness to obtain one.
- Commitment to promoting inclusion and equality for all students.
