We have an exciting opportunity for two Reading intervention coaches to join our team.
We are seeking to expand our highly successful Intervention team with exceptional individuals with a focus on improving and developing reading, literacy and phonics skills.
We work throughout the school to develop and support effective practice for students with SEND and lower than average reading ages. This role is aimed at working with individual children and small groups to become more confident readers who are better equipped at articulating and expressing their thoughts and ideas. This will mean they are better able to engage with, enjoy and be successful in the rest of the curriculum we have available for them. Full training will be provided on the schemes used.
We consistently secure rapid progress from a range of SEND students, by building strong relationships and understanding their own personal development and learning styles.
We achieve this through in-class support, small group and 1 -1 interventions, mentoring and maintaining strong parental partnerships. Our team have a range of experience; from people new to the role to people with experience in adult, secondary and primary education. Whatever their experience they have high ambitions for the progress and participation in school life for all students with SEND.

Our ideal candidate would have:

 

  • experience of coaching and ensuring success for young people with SEND with a variety of needs or below average reading ability ability to work effectively with, relate to and command the confidence of, a wide range of young people with different ethnic and social backgrounds and their parents/carers thorough understanding of child development and learning processes


Core Purpose: To raise the achievement and progress academically and socially for students with SEND. Specific responsibilities of this role:

  • delivering effective programmes of support, following the comprehensive assessment, for those students who need extra help to overcome barriers to learning inside and outside school. developing and delivering an action plan for each child who needs particular support. liaising with parents, external agencies and colleagues to support identified students. supporting individual students in three 30 minute sessions every week, working with them to develop their reading skills. supporting identified students to build their decoding skills, working with them until they are fluent readers. following the Thinking Reading programme, including engaging with both the initial CPD and the ongoing support. using and adapting the resources available to precisely support the individual needs of students. track and monitor the progress of the individual students, graduating them from the programme when appropriate. supporting the wider school focus on literacy through the support of the identified students. support the identification of students through the use of assessment. regularly review own practice, set personal targets and take responsibilities for own personal development. to undertake appropriate professional development including adhering to the principle of performance management. create and maintain an effective partnership with parents and carers to support and improve young people’s achievement and personal development.
