Job description

Teaching Fellow
Grade 6 (£30,487 - £36,024 pro rata)
Part time, Fixed Term (for a period of 3 years)
Abertay is a modern university with a global outlook, rooted in its local and national communities. We have made our mark with high quality, well-directed teaching and research, and a stimulating and enriching experience for our students.
The Division of Psychology and Forensic Sciences sits within the School of Applied Sciences. Our division is highly research active, consisting of over 20 staff delivering three accredited undergraduate (Hons) degree programmes and four accredited pathway degrees. We co-deliver an MSc in AI/UX and will commence a new MSc in Research Methods in 2025/26 as part of our success in our Doctoral Training Centre bid as a pocket of excellence (UoA4, UoA32). We are proud of commendations received for our teaching (e.g., approachability of staff, diverse assessment portfolio, work placement opportunities), our sustained links with practitioners in the police and counselling, and national ratings for student satisfaction (e.g., within top 10% for teaching in UK Psychology, GUG 2023). Students benefit from a top environment for research compared to institutions of similar size (REF2021) and have access to a variety of labs with recognised equipment and software.
Reporting to the Head of Division, you will provide excellent teaching to our students, developing and delivering teaching content and managing modules on our accredited programmes including undergraduate research supervision. Your expertise and support for staff will contribute to the success and smooth running of our programmes, and continued excellence in teaching quality and personalised learning. We are specifically looking to hire up to four Teaching Fellows at 0.5FTE – please clearly indicate within your application any preferred deviation between 0.5 and 1FTE and we can consider this during the recruitment process. Given our research-teaching linkages, and the content of our degree pathways, we are looking for up to three fellows whose expertise in teaching/research speaks to discipline areas of cognitive, forensic, and developmental psychology. Desirable candidates may sit at the intersection of these areas (e.g., applied cognitive psychology) or have a track record of working across disciplinary boundaries (forensic science). A fourth appointee should have a background in health psychology (ideally HCPC registered).
The role requires someone who can communicate psychological knowledge to a diverse student body in a variety of standard and innovative formats (assessment and delivery). You will be a collegiate team player committed to the success and development of our division and our students, collaborating effectively across the team to share practice and meet targets across the teaching term. You will have a motivation to engage with evidence-based teaching practices and pedagogical research and will be effective at managing your schedule.
If you believe you have the skills and experience for this exciting and challenging role, please submit your application through our online recruitment system, which can be found at https://www.abertay.ac.uk/discover/work-here/jobs/
