Job description

Full time 35 hours per week Open Ended We are seeking to recruit aTeaching Technical & Fieldwork Support Technician to assist with the preparation and delivery of taught laboratory classes within the Biology Teaching Organisation.   The Opportunity: We are seeking  a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual, with a keen interest in natural history, to join the BTO Technical Team to support our undergraduate laboratory classes and field work activities. Our team serves over 1000 students in their laboratory activities across all aspects of the Biological Sciences curriculum.  You will be responsible for the support of specific practical laboratory classes as required by the Laboratory Supervisor. You will ensure that all equipment and sufficient resources are in place to provide a safe, high quality, experience for both staff and students in the laboratory and on field courses. This role does not require you to teach students. You will also be expected to drive equipment, students and staff to field stations and outdoor locations, using a range of vehicles including 17-seat minibuses so a valid driving licence is essential, preferably with a D1 category for minibuses, although training can be given to achieve this. The post holder will become part of a large technical team of 14 staff, providing support across a wide range of disciplines within Biological Sciences. A flexible approach is required in order to extend support to, and share knowl Vedge with, any of our four teaching laboratories if needed. We aim to provide an excellent laboratory experience for students. Your skills and attributes for success:  A keen knowledge of, and passion for, zoology and natural history.  Possess well developed experience and skills from working in a practical teaching or research laboratory but also willing to learn new skills and techniques. High level of enthusiasm and motivation and be proactive and conscientious, ensuring timetabled activities are delivered effectively. Good understanding of health and safety regulations & procedures.
