ITF ROLE OVERVIEW
JOB TITLE: Team Lead, Wheelchair Tennis
DEPARTMENT: Tours & Player Pathway (Wheelchair Tennis)
REPORTING TO: Head, Sport Science & Pathway (Wheelchair Tennis)
LOCATION: Roehampton, South-West London (role may involve international
travel)
We work to a hybrid model requiring a mandatory minimum of 3 days working in the office
based in Roehampton, London and as part of this, Mondays and Tuesdays are ‘anchor days’
where all staff are obliged to work from the office.
Due to the timing of our projects, for this role we can only consider candidates who, on

International Tennis Federation (ITF) is the world governing body of tennis. Founded in 1913, its
purpose is to ensure the long-term growth and sustainability of the sport, delivering tennis for
future generations in association with its 213 member nations. The ITF oversees the rules and
regulations that govern international and national competition.
The ITF is responsible for the worldwide development of tennis through its highly regarded
Development Programme, its Science and Technical department which monitors equipment and
technology, and its Officiating department which oversees the education and advancement of
officials. The ITF is the owner of the two largest annual international team competitions in tennis,
Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup (BJKC) by Gainbridge and manages the Olympic and Paralympic
Tennis Events on behalf of the IOC and IPC. The ITF organises over 1,500 weeks of men’s, women’s
and junior tournaments on the ITF World Tennis Tour, ITF Beach Tennis Tour, UNIQLO Wheelchair
Tennis Tour and the ITF Masters Circuit. The ITF upholds the highest standards of integrity and is
a partner in the International Tennis Integrity Agency.
Overview of Department:
The Wheelchair Tennis department is responsible for all aspects of WHEELCHAIR TENNIS at an
international level. Activities include the organisation of the Wheelchair Tennis Event at the
Paralympic Games, the BNP Paribas World Team Cup, the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters, the
UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour, classification and the development of WHEELCHAIR TENNIS for
adults and juniors worldwide.
The Role:
The Team Lead, Wheelchair (Player Pathway), will work closely with the Head, Wheelchair Sports
Science & Player Pathway to lead the identification, development, and implementation of strategic
projects that enhance the WHEELCHAIR TENNIS player pathway. This role is central to the innovation
and delivery of junior WHEELCHAIR TENNIS programmes in collaboration with global partners, aiming
to increase the number of players throughout the pathway.
Positioned within the ITF Wheelchair Sports Science & Player Pathway team, the role will help to
drive forward the ITF’s strategy for WHEELCHAIR TENNIS – Roadmap 2030 – and support the wider
ITF Wheelchair team's objectives for the benefit of the entire WHEELCHAIR TENNIS community. The
role requires a proactive approach to sport development and project management, with emphasis
on stakeholder engagement across the international WHEELCHAIR TENNIS landscape.
Occasional travel worldwide, sometimes for extended periods and over weekends, is a requisite
part of this role to effectively implement and support initiatives and programmes developed.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the collection and analysis of reliable and groundbreaking insight into the wheelchair
and strategic planning, ensuring a player-centred approach that optimises player
experience and performance.
- Support the Head, Wheelchair Sports Science & Player Pathway to develop and implement
grow the game.
- Oversee funding initiatives aimed at supporting targeted players, regions, and National
- Design and execute specific development projects for targeted growth areas within the
- Establish and enhance a junior pathway programme that facilitates the increase in junior
players.
- Act as the primary point of contact for the ITF Wheelchair team's interactions with the
alignment across all initiatives.
- Regularly report on the progress of strategic projects and programmes to the Head,
impact and adjust strategies as necessary.
- Act as a key liaison between the ITF, Wheelchair Committee, National Associations, and
- Coordinate with the Head and Executive Director to ensure all Committees, Commissions
implement the strategic and operational goals set by the Committees.
- Undertake other responsibilities and projects as required by the Head.

You will have…
✓ A high level of knowledge, skill and experience in sport development, governance, and the
operational facets of sport organisations.
✓ Familiarity with internal and external committees, rules and regulations, and player welfare
issues, including child protection and player education.
✓ Knowledge of WHEELCHAIR TENNIS and/or disability sport is highly advantageous.
✓ Proven ability in project management within the sports sector. Capable of delivering complex
projects from inception to completion, adhering to strict timelines and budgets.
✓ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the capacity to foster and manage
relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders, including players, coaches, national
associations, and external partners.
✓ Ability to facilitate discussions and build consensus among various groups.
✓ Experience in leading teams, with emphasis on personal development, coaching, and
performance management.
✓ Skills in the use of ICT systems, databases, and digital tools to enhance operational efficiency
and stakeholder engagement.
✓ Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, and travel internationally as required
by the role.
✓ Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
✓ Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. Proficiency in additional European
languages is desirable, enhancing the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of
international stakeholders.
