Are you looking to get your foot on the career ladder as an Engineer? (wearing the right safety boots obviously!) Then you might be interested in our 2024 Apprenticeship Program.
You’ll start your four-year Apprenticeship program with us in August 2024, and you’ll specialise as either a Mechanical Engineer, or an Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer.
About the Role
So, what’ll you be doing? Over the four-year apprenticeship you’ll spend your first year at our training providers learning hub. The hub might not be local to you, but that’s okay as we’ll provide the transport to get you there and back, so you just need to be able to get to us.
After your first year of study, you’ll begin your onsite training at our power station in Selby, so you’ll need to be able to get to us every day. There’s no such thing as a typical day as an apprentice as it’ll vary depending on what year you’re in, and what team you’re working with. But, to give you a bit of an idea you can expect to provide maintenance (with help of course) on Drax mechanical, electrical or control and instrumentation bits of our plant. Then next you might be learning to read and interpret technical drawings to make sure you’re fixing the right bit of kit.
Ultimately, you’ll be learning to be responsible and accountable for the plant, its equipment and systems. But that’s not all, you’ll also be learning to solve problems safely, logically, quickly, and confidently.
You’ll be joining a large team of experienced and trainee technicians. So you’ll get all the knowledge of our highly skilled long serving technicians, alongside all the advice, friendship and support of your apprentice colleagues (they’ve been in your shoes so they know!)
About you
Sound exciting? Wondering what you need to apply?
Well, you’ll need (or be predicted to achieve by 2024) a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C/5 or above: Maths, English, Double Science and a further 2 GCSEs (or equivalent) in any other subject area. And as well as getting the right grades, we’ll also be looking for candidates with good communication skills who can work as part of a team.
