Your new role

In this exciting role you will as part of the Technical Learning & Development team dedicated to our Rolling Stock business unit where you will be responsible for the management of competencies across our workforce. To do this you will be required to maintain a system to manage competencies to meet all audit requirements, update competencies in line with project or departmental changes along with managing the digital reporting function, allowing managers to access their individual team’s competency status.

In addition to the above, you will have a focus on supporting the emerging talent programmes for the site, and potentially wider Hitachi Rail sites, and manage the SEE (skills, education and employment) requirements within the business. Due to the nature of this role, we ask the successful candidate to be flexible with regards to UK travel to meet business requirements.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Competency Specifications are standardised and up to date on SinglePoint.
  • Manage and monitor the assessment and validation of observations ensuring they are meeting the correct standards, and all assessors are trained.
  • Ensure lesson plans are in place for all internal delivery and consistent across all areas.
  • Responsible for the technical induction of employees (including contractors)
  • Support the emerging talent programmes for the site and manage the SEE (Skills, Education and Employment) requirements for the site.
  • Promote the online learning resource that supports self-development and personal development plans for all colleagues.
  • Manage requests for professional development maximising the use of the Apprenticeship Levy.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of learning and development interventions in response to the business needs.
  • Support the HSE team with innovative learning solutions and promote safe working.
  • Deliver in-house courses as required.
  • Lead data collection and analysis to support ongoing monitoring and evaluation of learning.
  • Support the recruitment process during peak times.
  • Design and creation of e-learning programmes working with the SMEs in the business areas.
  • Role model continuing professional development.
  • Deputise for L&D manager when required.
  • Support with the management of the training budget
  • Continually research the external environment, ensuring that our solutions are industry leading and strive to constantly develop our approach and offering (content and methods used)

About you

Applicants should be able to demonstrate all of the essential requirements listed below:

Essential Requirements

  • Experience of working with competency frameworks in a safety critical environment.
  • Held a training role in a production/manufacturing environment.
  • Proven track record in learning and development - design and delivery.
  • Good understanding of health and safety responsibilities.
  • The ability to effectively communicate clearly with staff at all levels.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Excellent IT skills, MS Office and authoring tools.
  • Project management skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work to deadlines.
  • A willingness to work flexibly.
  • Commitment to working as part of a team.

Desirable Requirements

  • Recognised training qualification in a relevant area.
  • Knowledge of Power BI and SAP.
  • Experience of creating effective blended learning solutions.
