We are seeking a Technical Manager (Clean Water) who will be managing a team of 6 technical and support specialists to ensure that our agreed Public Health risks, compliance and performance service levels are achieved. You will work closely with the operational team generating proactive action to reduce the risk to water quality assets (water treatment works, reservoirs and booster stations) and managing the implementation of these plans. You will work with internal and external stakeholders to provide innovative solutions affecting the performance of our assets. You will be responsible for collecting and sharing best technical practices and good ideas across Operations and you will use your technical expertise to increase the resilience of our water assets
You will also provide technical training and support for the field-based technicians enhancing their abilities.
What you’ll be doing as a Technical Manager
- Monitor, report and act against key performance indicators for the reliability and resilience of our asset base, the capability of our people and the sustainable operation of our sites.
- Lead your team to achieve agreed objectives, enhancing employee engagement and promoting a strong health and safety culture.
- Implement, through local and regional initiatives and various operational and process steering groups, business and technical developments to improve our performance against regulatory performance commitments whilst driving efficiency in our opex and capex spending.
- Manage our risk profile across including 27 Service Reservoirs, 23 Water Booster Stations and 25 Water Treatment Works.
- Responsible for our directly managed capex budget and obtaining buy-in from key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Represent Operations throughout large Capital Schemes through the project lifecycle.
Base Location: Hybrid - Orpington BR6 0SQ (but we can be flexible on another base location in the Thames Water patch)
36 hours per week, Monday to Friday
What you should bring to the role
- The ideal candidate would be degree educated (or equivalent), typically with at least 3 years relevant industry experience, or ONC/HNC or equivalent in a field related to water treatment typically with 5 + years relevant work experience.
- We are looking for someone with the ability to lead and develop people within a team and has good knowledge and experience of technical training programmes for frontline staff.
- Excellent organisational skills, a keen eye for detail and a demonstrable ability to manage workload under pressure are essential.
- Clean water process knowledge would be advantageous. Confidence in your ability to present key findings and liaise with managers of all levels is key to success in the role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
