Job summary
The Scottish Forestry Conservancy teams are responsible for the delivery of the organisation’s regulatory activity, application of forest policy and implementation of the range of financial incentives available for forestry.
Our Technical Officers regulate the management of forests across Scotland, including the planting and felling of trees, and measures related to tree health. They also administer grants and provide other support to land managers to achieve delivery of new planting targets.
Job description
You’ll support the end to end processes associated with Woodland Creation, leading primarily on the processing of complex woodland creation casework. You’ll have responsibility for complex case assessments providing regulatory advice and assistance for reasoned conclusions, complex Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) consent responses, complaints and appeals.
You may also support complex work associated with Sustainable Forest Management cases and other regulatory procedures.

Experience
Essential:
- Experience and knowledge of woodland creation, associated silvicultural practices and practical delivery on the ground;
- Experience of providing advice, technical support, training or directly managing woodland creation and other forest management operations;
- Competent user of Microsoft Office packages such as Outlook, Excel and Word.
Desirable:
- Experience of grants and regulations approval processes or providing advice on complex cases;
- Experience of managing, assessing, and writing high quality Environmental Impact Assessments or other complex reports.
Technical
Essential:
- Be educated to degree level, with a degree in forestry, ecology or similar discipline; or have significant relevant experience in UK forest practice
Desirable:
- Member of the Institute of Chartered Foresters (or equivalent for environmental disciplines).
