The opportunity has arisen for two Technical Officers to join the multi-disciplinary Royal Greenwich Disability & Home Improvement Team, providing services to the homes of Greenwich residents across all tenures. With a focus on supporting older and vulnerable borough residents to live independently in their own homes by adapting or improving their environment.
This rewarding job will suit applicants who have a strong commitment to the delivery of high-quality services to vulnerable people and an understanding of housing problems faced by older people and those with disabilities.
You will either need to have a HND or equivalent qualification in a building or housing standards related subject with relevant experience or have extensive relevant experience in this area of work.
The successful candidate will have a detailed knowledge and understanding of domestic construction and will be able to identify defects in domestic dwellings and appropriate remedies. Be able to design and specify simple disabled adaptations and schedules of repair work. Carry out the duties of a contract administrator, including financial control of contracts.
They should also be able to provide technical support on housing standards and home improvements and be HHSRS competent. Be able to inspect temporary accommodation, used by the Council to ensure the properties are safe to occupy .To be able to identify hazards and produce concise accurate reports detailing any defects/hazards and the action required to rectify them including timescales. To support on empty and home improvement property works as necessary.
An understanding of and ability to apply all relevant legislation is also essential.
