About The Role

Working within a growing sales and technical team, the Technical Sales Engineer / Sales Specialist / Account Manager will be responsible for:

  • Taking a lead role in converting qualified incoming inquiries (40%) and managing existing customers (60%) across the UK. (depending on the recruits' locality and experience there are options for the role to be split by geographic territory or by product/market vertical).
  • Developing relationships with end users (60%) and OEMs (40%) within both Academia and industry.
  • Managing a multimillion-pound turnover.
  • Understanding clients' application challenges and providing bespoke solutions that are fit for purpose.
  • Conducting both virtual and face-to-face meetings.
  • Attending industry exhibitions and events to build market knowledge and gain competitor analysis.
  • Handling both technical and commercial inquiries from your territory.
  • Presenting and demonstrating my client’s technology, discussing the features and benefits it has to offer.
  • Working on a sales cycle of 1 to 24 months with an average order value of £30K-£50K. (with the largest UK sale this year being £1.3m over an 18-month period)
  • Utilising the Applications Engineering team when needed.

About You

The successful candidate MUST possess experience dealing with either industrial or academic clients within a technical field sales / applications capacity, this could be as a Sales Engineer, Sales Specialist, Applications Engineer, Presales, Product Specialist, Account Manager, or Sales Manager. 

Product experience within one of the following areas would be highly advantageous, metrology, non-contact measurement, optical imaging, microscopy, photonics, spectroscopy, nanotechnology, Motion Control, CMMs, materials characterisation, materials testing equipment, hardness testers, linear bearings, motors or high precision optical encoders.

Technical education in Mechanical Engineering, Metrology, Mechatronics, Electromechanical, Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biophysics', Biological Sciences), or affiliated would be highly advantageous, but not essential should somebody possess an extensive Technical Sales career.

Other key requirements include:

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to discuss highly technical solutions in a meaningful manner.
  • The ability to build trusting relationships with clients.
  • Willingness to learn and develop.
  • Driving license.
  • Good mix of sales and technical ability.
  • Team player with a willingness to support others.
