About The Role
Team – Corporate Underwriting
Working Pattern - Hybrid – 2 days per week in the Vitality Bournemouth (Flexible) Office. Full time, 35 hours per week. 
A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an aspiring person with extensive underwriting experience to join Vitality’s Corporate Pricing team as Technical Underwriting Lead.
Are you currently a Senior Underwriter or Technical Underwriting Lead/Manager with deep expertise in PMI or health related insurance sector (e.g. Life, Income Protection)? Or have you gained your underwriting experience within a portfolio level role with a strong financial and commercial element? If this sounds like you, then this could be an ideal progression into a successful and thriving business.

What this role is all about:
The Market Underwriting Managerdeals with all levels of complexity, high profile clients and the largest of Vitality’s corporate clients, including trusts. They agree on commercial movements outside of the philosophy, within their financial authority level.
Key Actions
  • You will deal with all levels of complexity, high profile and the largest of Vitality’s corporate clients, including trusts. You will agree on commercial movements outside of the philosophy, within your financial authority level.
  • Operate in a complex environment, delivering work independently. Your work will stand up to scrutiny of colleagues at an equivalent level, and management. 
  • Draws on wide knowledge and experience to provide comprehensive solutions. Refines and customises work to meet specific client (internal and external) needs and to reflect best practice. May quality assure work for final delivery to clients
  • Analyse and make recommendations to senior management on complex challenges, and develop and propose the most appropriate solution/s.
  • Contribute to the formation and revision of the underwriting strategy and philosophy. Conducts horizon-scanning; understands changes in the market and feed this into changes to the underwriting philosophy and guidelines
  • Engages with external stakeholders/customers about the grey areas of underwriting where there is no cut and dry, right or wrong answer
  • Proactively contextualises briefings and presentations to each situation by anticipating the audience and their likely responses. Regarded as a trusted advisor to the executive of Vitality
Essential Skills needed to fulfil this role:
  • Extensive Private Medical Insurance experience ideally within pricing or underwriting
  • Numerical and analytical
  • Dynamic and resilient with the ability to work in an innovative and change oriented environment
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts to internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong organisational skills, with focus on prioritising in response to changing demands
