About the job
Through the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Programme, Donite Plastics in partnership with Queen’s University Belfast have an exciting employment opportunity for an engineering graduate to work on a 30- month collaborative project with the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre (AMIC) at Queen’s. The successful candidate will innovate, develop and implement advanced manufacturing technologies (Industry 4.0) for the thermoforming of thermoplastic materials to deliver company growth and secure new markets.

The successful candidate will become part of a team within Donite Plastics based in Saintfield, County Down. Donite is a leading industrial vacuum forming company offering an end-to-end service from material selection and design to manufacture and delivery of thermoformed plastic panels. Donite uses its established expertise in vacuum forming technology, CAD/CAM design and CNC machining to deliver bespoke products across a range of sectors including for Agritech (interior and exterior plastic panels), Aircraft interiors (primary premium seating panels), Industrial panels (guarding and cosmetic exteriors), and bus and coach parts. Donite has an established reputation as a leader in vacuum forming throughout the UK and Ireland but would like to expand into new global markets.

As a KTP Associate, you will lead on the delivery of the following key project stages:
Stage 1 – Thermoforming process familiarisation
Stage 2 - Opportunities and applications of Manufacturing 4.0
Stage 3 – Digital energy and process monitoring
Stage 4 – Digital tool tracking and storage
Stage 5 – Factory systems for sustainable use of materials
Stage 6 – Pressure thermoforming

About the person
The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following criteria:

  • At least a 2.1 Honours Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or a closely related subject.
  • A good understanding of engineering materials or manufacturing processes would be beneficial.
  • Work experience in a factory environment.
