Telecoms Field Engineer
Purpose
To provide the primary technical interface between the business and their customers, devise solutions and recommendation, restore customer services to operational level within SLA and carry out and lead Survey, Installation, and Commissioning tasks, completing them within set project timescales and budget, and to defined quality standards.
Specific Duties
Maintain our customer network and participating in 24 x 7 x 365 on call rota system.
Respond to requests for service within SLA or company targets, restoring the customer s services to operational level as required by the contract.
To provide the primary technical interface for customers.
Carry out Radio link Installation and Commissioning activities when required, following and maintaining the correct documentation.
To develop good working relationships internally and externally, acting as an ambassador whilst on customer sites.
Ensure the handling of spares from issue through to return to stock according to current operational procedures.
Ensure that all faults reported on the FMS System are accurate at all times.
Ensure that all equipment issued is correctly maintained at all times.
Remain fit for work while on call at all times, including ensuring that all mandatory training is maintained.
To complete any duties given to them by the Field Operations Supervisor or Field Operations Manager in a timely and professional manner.
Report any Health and Safety Issues immediately to the Field Operations Supervisor or Superior and comply with all customer and company quality, environmental and HSE requirements.
Exceed contractual obligations of a variety of service contracts.
Qualifications and Experience
1. At least 3 years telecommunications working in a field service/support environment.
2. HNC in Electronics or Telecommunications Engineering or equivalent.
3. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, including high level reporting skills (verbally and written)
4. Self-motivated and enthusiastic, ability to work effectively unsupervised.
5. Flexible and adaptive attitude, considerable working outside of normal working hours 24/7/365
6. Up to date or previously in date Working at Heights Certifications, including Advanced Climber & Tower Rescue, First Aid, Emergency First Aid at Heights, RF Awareness & Rooftop Safety & Access.
7. Full Driving Licence
8. PC literate, Windows, MS Office suite
9. The successful candidate must hold and retain full MOD SC and Police Clearance
10. To maintain a critical awareness of development in technology and the telecommunications market industry
11. Will be required to work from a Home Based location or any location as directed by the Field Operations Supervisor, including working from the Head Office as required.
Technical Skills and Experience/Person Specification
Candidates must have the following essential requirements and skills:-
Extensive Microwave Radio fundamentals and principles (Microwave radio, PDH, SDH)
Level 1 & 2 Fault identification on telecommunication and detailed experience of networks
Knowledge of antenna and wave guide installation
Fibre Optics Principles
Basic Network and IP Principles
Installation & operational understanding of ADM, WDM, DWDM & Fibre optic principles.
Rigging experience
Previous experience in a Field operation role
Demonstrable ability to work to deadlines
Must demonstrate attention to detail and a consistent focus on quality
Track record of compliance with company safety policy, and working safely
Good communication skills
Computer literate
Customer focussed
Hold and retain MOD SC and Police Clearance
The successful candidate must be willing to hold and retain offshore certification
The following would be desirable
Technical project support experience
AP/SAP Certification
Relevant educational qualifications or apprenticeship
Map and compass skills
Rope Access Skills Level 1 or 3 would be a distinct advantage.
