Job description

Honeycomb is delighted to be partnering with Ards North Down Borough Council & is currently seeking an immediate Home Safety Officer'. Temporary ongoing post with travel required.

The Client – This large organisation operates across a broad remit through its specific departments. Currently the Community and Wellbeing directorate are seeking a Scale 5 Engagement Officer to assist with the delivery of home safety checks.

The Role – An exciting collaboration across multiple local government catchment areas i.e) travel required to multiple sits with mileage reimbursed. Access to a car for business purposes would be required. This role is to provide additional cover to the wider team until end of March 2024 at which point it will be reviewed. 36 hours per week, with a base site of Newtownards.

Duties would include but not be limited to:

  • Carry out home safety checks identifying areas of risk within the home and providing information and advice to help reduce the number of accidents in the home.
  • Carry out a needs assessment, provide approved equipment on this basis, and ensure that residents know how to use it safely to reduce their risk of accidental injury.
  • Make appropriate referrals to statutory bodies on the basis of a needs assessment and with the consent of the resident.
  • Maintain written records of each home safety visit and complete computer records.
  • Meet targets for home visits in each council area based on Service Level Agreements with Public Health Agency and other relevant agencies, giving priority to those at most risk.

The Person – Essential Criteria

  • 5 GCSEs Grade C or above (incl. English Language) or equivalent & minimum of 1 years’ relevant experience OR 3 year's relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience engaging with families with children under 5/ older people in their home/ residential/ community, or responsibility/enforcement experience of health and safety in the workplace including risk assessment.
  • Excellent communication and IT Skills.
