Who we need.

We are looking for an enthusiastic textile’s technician to join the Fashion & textiles department to provide technical support for students in the Textiles subject area. This post requires an organised and flexible person, with a background in the textiles.

Skills required:

  • Knowledge of Textile printing which includes traditional flatbed screen printing, digital printing.
  • fabric dyeing - dyeing, batik, marbling, Shibori
  • Constructed textiles skills such as: embroidery hand and digital, felt making, weaving and fabric manipulation
  • Knitting skills - Crochet and hand knitting including basic machine knit
  • Excellent domestic machine sewing and operational skills including free motion embroidery.
  • Cad skills - photoshop and illustrator and PE 10 software (embroidery machine)
  • General cleaning and tidying of textile studio space and general maintenance of irons, heat presses and sewing machines etc.

What you’ll bring

You need to be a passionate and enthusiastic expert within the Textile’s sector who feels passionate about passing on your textiles knowledge and experience. As a Technician, you will play a key role in inspiring, encouraging and helping to advance young people by supporting sessions that improve their personal and professional skills.

As part of the role you will be required to:

  • Regular maintenance of the equipment in the textile’s rooms such as domestic sewing machines including free hand motion, irons, dye area, fabric boxes etc
  • Support staff and students in textile workshops as required.
  • Assist in setting up equipment/resources for Textile lessons.
  • Assist in stock taking supplies and ensuring that equipment and resources are in good order under the supervision of the Senior Technician.
  • To supervise, monitor and review all health and safety practices and procedures in textile Area.
  • Undertaking such other duties as may reasonably be requested by management, such as end of year shows, exhibitions, fashion shows. Supporting trips, open evenings etc
